FAQ
The questions we get most often.
Twenty-three years of conversations with Hamilton homeowners, property managers, and insurance adjusters distilled into the questions that come up the most. Don't see yours? Reach out — we'll answer it personally.
About our work
-
How long does a typical residential re-roof take?
A standard 2,000 to 3,000 square foot residential roof typically takes 3 to 5 working days from tear-off to final clean-up. Larger homes, complex rooflines (multiple gables, valleys, dormers), or weather delays can extend this — but we never leave a roof exposed overnight regardless.
-
Do you sub-contract any of your crews?
No. Every single roof we quote is installed by a Platinum Roofing & Exteriors Hamilton crew on Platinum payroll. The warranty stops at our office, not at three different sub-contractors who may or may not still be in business in five years.
-
What shingles do you install?
We are GAF Master Elite Certified, IKO ROOFPRO Premium, and CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster contractors — the three largest shingle manufacturers in North America. We install GAF Timberline HDZ and Camelot II, IKO Dynasty and Crowne Slate, and CertainTeed Landmark Pro and Presidential as our standard residential lines. Premium designer shingles available on request.
-
Do you do flat roofs?
Yes — we have a dedicated commercial division running TPO, EPDM, modified-bitumen, and PVC systems. We also handle low-slope residential flats (sunrooms, garage roofs, second-storey additions) using two-ply cap-sheet modified-bitumen or fully-welded TPO.
Warranty & guarantees
-
How long is your warranty?
Platinum Roofing & Exteriors Hamilton provides a 25-year written workmanship warranty on every residential roof we install. This covers our installation — separately from the manufacturer's warranty on the shingles themselves (which is typically Limited Lifetime). On commercial systems, we provide a 10-year workmanship warranty layered with the manufacturer's 20-year material warranty.
-
Is your warranty transferable if I sell my home?
Yes. Our 25-year workmanship warranty is fully transferable to the next homeowner at no cost. We just need a one-page transfer form completed at the time of sale. Many of our customers tell us this has added measurable value at resale.
-
What happens if something goes wrong in year 12?
Call our office. A senior crew chief will visit your property within 5 business days, diagnose the issue, and — if it's a workmanship matter — repair it at our cost with no deductible. If the issue traces back to a shingle defect, we handle the manufacturer warranty claim on your behalf.
Cost & estimates
-
Are estimates really free?
Yes — every on-site assessment and written proposal is free, with no obligation. We climb the roof, measure with a laser, document the existing system, and deliver a written itemized proposal within 48 hours of the site visit. You owe us nothing if you decide to go a different direction.
-
How does Platinum pricing compare to other Hamilton roofers?
We're typically in the upper-middle of the quotes you'll receive. We're not the cheapest and we don't try to be. Our itemized proposals show exactly what you're paying for — premium shingles, full ice & water shield, proper ventilation balance, senior crew, 25-year workmanship warranty. If a competitor's number is lower, we encourage you to compare line by line and see what they're leaving out.
-
Do you require a deposit?
We typically request a 10% deposit at contract signing, with the balance due upon completion. For larger commercial projects we use a progress-billing schedule tied to project milestones. We accept cheque, e-transfer, and credit card.
Insurance & emergencies
-
Do you handle insurance claims?
Yes — direct billing with every major Canadian insurer (Intact, Aviva, TD, Allstate, Cooperators, Wawanesa, Economical, Travelers, Sonnet, RSA, and more). You sign one form and we manage the entire claim end-to-end, including supplements if the original scope is insufficient.
-
I have an active leak. How fast can you get here?
Call us at (905) 555-1234. We dispatch an emergency tarping crew within 24 hours across our service area. The tarping is free for active leak situations — we'll provide a written estimate for the permanent repair afterward.
-
Are you insured?
Yes. We carry $5 million in general liability insurance plus $2 million in product liability coverage, and we are WSIB-compliant on all employees. Insurance certificates are available on request as part of any proposal.
